Vardehaugen is an Oslo-based architecture studio working across Norway and internationally. Our portfolio spans a wide range — from cabins and private homes to cultural landmarks and destination development.

We specialize in bespoke, context-sensitive architecture. Each project is designed to be one of a kind — rooted in its surroundings, tailored to its users, and built to endure.

We have a particular passion for community-driven and destination-focused projects — combining strong identity, local culture, and memorable experiences. Whether it's a remote retreat, a public space, or a reimagined heritage site, we approach each location with care, curiosity, and deep respect for its context.

How We Work

We believe the best architecture grows from dialogue. That’s why we work closely with our clients, collaborators, and communities throughout the entire process — from the first idea to final realization.

Our approach is defined by:

  • Personal and close dialog with the client
  • Strong conceptual thinking
  • Interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Hands-on follow-up and long-term commitment

Every client is different. Every place is unique. Our goal is to translate that distinctiveness into architecture that resonates — emotionally, functionally, and culturally.

Vardehaugen was founded in 2015 by architect Håkon Matre Aasarød. The studio is authorized by the National Directorate for Building Quality (DIBK) and is a member of the National Association of Norwegian Architects (MNAL).
