At one point, people stopped dreaming of simple cabins and began overcrowding the mountains with with holiday homes. It’s time to reverse this trend.

With the project STOGO, we aim to reconnect with our traditional mountain roots and reinvent how we build in Norway’s alpine areas.
Inspired by the traditional mountain cluster (stølstun)—once vibrant centers of work and community—STOGO creates mountain villages built around ecological cabins and shared spaces.
The idea: less private property, more shared experience — fostering both social and environmental sustainability. By sharing, we can all have more while building and owning less. With shared facilities like saunas, gathering spaces, and storage, even the smallest cabin becomes part of a larger community.
STOGO also includes flexible cabin types suited for both individual plots and larger developments. Each cabin is designed for low energy use and minimal concrete, with a warm core that can function independently when parts are not in use. Instead of concrete foundations, the cabins rest on beautifully crafted stone pillars made from locally sourced stone — merging durability with tradition and a light footprint on the landscape.
The project was the winner of a national architecture competition in 2023.
Establishing a mountain cluster: 1) Conduct landscape analysis and restore the terrain, 2) Introduce low-impact infrastructure and reversible foundations, 3) Create community houses and shared facilities, 4) Build a series of small, private units inspired by local traditions
Both the cabins and clusters are designed with flexibility, allowing customers to tailor size and appearance according to the landscape’s qualities and their desired functions.
